How can an Internal Medicine Doctor help you?
Internal Medicine Doctors or Internists start by asking details about the symptoms you are facing and your medical history. Once they understand your systems, they may suggest a range of diagnostic tests to undertake in order to pinpoint the problem. These include-
- Blood Tests, where the patient’s blood sample is taken and analysed to see how well the organs are functioning, whether someone has a genetic disorder or other risk factors.
- Urine Tests, where the patient’s urine sample is analysed to check for the presence of blood, excess glucose, bacteria etc that signify which organ is malfunctioning.
- USG’s, X-Rays, sometimes CT scan & MRI Tests, these tests often give the Internist a more detailed picture of the human body, on which they know how to look for problems.
They may even suggest tests of different specialities like cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, etc. in case they sense a problem in those systems.
